NONSTOP
NONSTOP, is a solo exhibition by Canberra artist Cat Mueller. Mueller offers the viewer a series of airbrushed paintings that feature rows of fast-paced loops that topographically dance across the canvas in linear compositions. This gestural and lyrical, almost obsessive, repetitive action sits in contrast with hard-edge, geometric abstraction. The continuity of the loops and coils across the picture plane is interrupted by rectangular frames that contribute to each work’s compositional structure but also its pictorial tension. They become paintings like within paintings, a continual reference to the object they are painted on however Mueller’s paintings skillfully return the viewer to the optical illusion she has crafted. The variety of hue, saturation and textural effects unite to create an energetic viewing experience not to be missed.
