'Taxi Driver'.

Taxi Driver

It’s Scorsese Season by David Stratton at NFSA. Good and creepy times.
Taxi Driver ‘Are you talking to me?’ Robert De Niro’s Vietnam veteran Travis Bickle works a night job driving taxis in New York, driven to action by the crime and debauchery all around him, with violent consequences.

Bernard Herrmann gave his last breath to the film’s music (literally, he died the day he finished the score). Scorsese’s violent homage to mid-1970s social upheavals won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and was a surprise box-office hit. De Niro’s role remains one of the most mimicked and plagiarised in cinema history. With Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepherd and Harvey Keitel.

The screening will be introduced by Dr Gino Moliterno, ANU.
