The Ritual of Bush Bathing – Mt Majura
PerformanceDrawing on the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) ‘The Ritual of Bush Bathing’ is a series of seasonal bush walks that aim to make us feel good by getting us back in there amongst the trees and the birds. And also, because any excuse for a nice walk in the bush is a good excuse. Our first walk will take us across the ridges and hills of Mt Majura and will end in a sound performance by Jayden Goodrem, a descendent of the Peramangk people.
This series has been developed in close collaboration with Ngunawal man Tyronne Bell who will lead the walks. Tyronne will share his knowledge of the history and culture of the area, deeply embedded in the landscape.
‘The Ritual of Bush Bathing’ walk series has been thought up to gladden all of our senses. The walks will take us through beautiful natural landscapes – learning through touch, taste and smell. We’ll also walk some of the stretches in silence. Each walk will end in an immersive sound performance, set within and responding to the surrounding landscape, working with a different artist each time.
