How to preserve our furniture

This 'How to' is designed to ensure our furniture pieces are preserved.

The Front Office Manager, General Manager, F&B Supervisor and Food and Beverage Manager must ensure the required level of quality for this procedure is maintained at all times and that all staff, contractors and suppliers that this procedure affects are aware and trained.

PROCEDURE

Our furniture collection is a valuable design archive. It is important to properly care for and clean our collection. Follow these care and cleaning instructions:

  1. The GENERAL MANAGER and RESTAURANT MANAGER must conduct a weekly floor walk and inspect furniture for damages. Items can get knocked around by cleaners and guests. Any damages or peculiarities that can’t be immediately rectified should be logged into HotSOS.
  2. All dining chairs need plastic or rubber feet. If chairs are missing these replace them or log in HotSOS for repair. It’s essential.
  3. All chair legs need to be checked for wobbles at the Monday night ‘hour of power’ by F&B staff. These need to be tightened or logged in HotSOS for repair.

Caring for Leather

(Charles Wilson sofa, fire hearth sofa and armchairs, grey leather banquettes, salon fire setting, monster dining banquette seating, circular stools under bar and brass patina tables)

  1. All our leathers are pure aniline. They are soft to the touch but they are unprotected.
  2. The leather is susceptible to stains. Spills must be attended to immediately. Reseat people while attending to spills.
  3. Mop up spills with a soft dabbing action, not a scrubbing action. Use a with soft lint free cloth with cool water. Never use any cleaning products, they will damage the leather.
  4. Leather chairs and seats should be wiped with a slightly damp cloth to remove any marks at the close of service. Leather chairs need to be carefully reviewed and cleaned at the Monday night ‘hour of power’. Any chairs with marks that do not budge need to be logged in HotSOS for repair.
  5. Leather item can be coated with a protective layer of beeswax. This can only be done with the written approval of the CREATIVE DIRECTOR.

Cotton Velvet

(Fire hearth banquette cushions, library sofa and armchair, green boomerang sofa at the entrance to the monster salon, dining chairs in the monster salon)

  1. Colour has been printed on white cotton velvet. Scrubbing the material will wear away the colour revealing the white underneath.
  2. Spills must be attended to immediately. Reseat people while attending to the spill.
  3. Use a damp but well wrung out cloth to dab spill. Spills need to blended out using a dabbing action (not a scrubbing action) until semi dry.
  4. During the monday night ‘hour of power’ the F&B team should use a small handheld steamer on Upholstery chairs to remove any marks on an ‘as they happen’ basis.
  5. The GENERAL MANAGER must schedule the Scotch guarding of upholstery items annually

Rag Stools, Rag Cushions

  1. Use a damp but well wrung out cloth to dab spill. Spills need to blended out using a dabbing action (not a scrubbing action) until semi dry.
  2. During the monday night ‘hour of power’ the F&B team should use a small handheld steamer on the Rag Stools and cushions to bring them back to life.
  3. Lift the pile daily by vigoursly running fingers through the pile to lift it.

Table Tops
(patinated brass, glass, glass topped wood in salon, sideboard in salon, feasting tables)

  1. Wipe with a damp but well wrung out microfiber cloth, followed by a dry cloth to ensure a streak free finish. Water only. Don not use cleaning products of any kind.
  2. Run a skewer around the edge of the tables (between steel and wood on feasting tables and glass and wood on coffee tables in salon) once per month to remove any trapped dirt.
  3. Ensure that the damp cloth isn’t over saturated. Water can become trapped underneath the glass on the glass topped wooden coffee tables. If you notice trapped water please log in HotSOS for maintenance. Glass will need to be lifted out. If unattended the wood will rot.
  4. Avoid cork wall when cleaning the top of the sideboard in the salon. Contact with water will damage the cork.

Rugs

  1. Spills, stains or mark on the rugs must be attended to immediately. Refer to the special cleaning instructions in the Cosgrove rugs carpet cleaning guide.
  2. Rugs should be turned quarterly.
